The Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at University of Mount Saint Vincent is a 30 credit curriculum consisting of both professional and skills-based clinically oriented courses. Upon successful completion of this program and required content specialty examination in ESOL, students who currently hold an initial New York State teaching certification will have fulfilled the academic requirements for certification in TESOL from Pre-K – Grade 12, as well as their initial certification area. Students without initial teacher certification must complete an additional 6 credits and follow all program recommendations for NYSED certification exams to be eligible for New York State initial certification in TESOL. Prior to program completion, all students must document completion of 12 credits in a foreign language(s) or sign language. Undergraduate coursework, graduate course- work, or equivalent credit on CLEP or NYU Proficiency will be accepted.

The M.S. in TESOL program at UMSV is an accelerated program designed for working professionals, career changers, or recent college graduates looking to make a difference in the lives of children. Classes are 100% online, conveniently held on weekends so that you can continue to work while you earn your degree. Our cohort model allows you to stay together with the same group of students throughout the program. Students receive a full course schedule upon admission, so you never have to worry about choosing and registering for courses.
